Tips for Tripod Photography

Using a tripod can be very beneficial in getting a good picture. Many amateur photographers are a little intimidated by the idea of using a tripod to take pictures. However, once you know how to use the equipment, it does not seem nearly as impressive.

When using a tripod, an important thing to notice is how level your camera will be once placed. Some tripods are equipped with levelers, but yours might not be. In order to insure that your shot will be level, you can use a small carpenters level to test your set up.

After your tripod is set up, it's a good idea to place some kind of heavy object, like a sand bag, on the support of the horizontal support of the tripod. This will increase the stability of your camera without having to buy a more expensive piece of equipment.

Another very important thing to consider is how tightly the locking mechanism is for holding the camera to the tripod. Try checking the camera and see if there is any give in its position.

Also, when it comes to tripods and cameras, the golden rule is to never leave your camera attached if you are moving the tripod a very large distance.

Once you have your camera set up in appropriate composition and framing, remember how different camera settings are going to affect the shot. Stand back to get a view of the shot you are going to take; it will help.
