Mystery in Black and White

There is an old clich? that states ?A picture is worth a thousand words.? In many cases this is true. Pictures can tell stories or simply capture a moment so that it can be shared with others. Black and white photography has fluctuated in its popularity. As color pictures became more readily available to consumers, black and white photos were used less often. However, as more people begin to enjoy the pleasures of digital photography they are experimenting with different shadings and effects. Because a computer and digital camera make it so easy to play with these different images black and white photos regained popularity.

Many people may ask ?Why use black and white, when color shows so much more?? It is true that color photos do show more detail than black and white but black and white photos have an advantage of mystery that color photos cannot express. Color photos show everything exactly as it was when the photo was taken. Black and white photos portray a dramatic impression of what was being captured in the picture leaving people free to make their own suggestions about the thoughts and feelings the photo is meant to invoke.

Because of the dramatic feelings and images black and white photos are able to capture they are becoming more and more popular. People have their wedding photos taken in black and white along with still life, wild life, buildings and random groups of people all because of the dramatic effects the lack of color brings to the photo.
