There are two main types of digital cameras. Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras tend to be the preferred choice of professional photographers and serious shutterbugs. They can take pictures instantly and give complete manual control. On the downside, SLRs tend to be heavy and bulky. The other option is compact digital cameras, which are small, lightweight, and cheaper, although they don't have quite the same level of performance. Many of the features on compact cameras are also automated, sacrificing control.
